Lucia Caminos – GTA 6’s First Leading Lady

If you’ve been sleeping on Lucia Caminos, it’s time to wake up. She’s not a side character; she’s not a love interest tacked on for flavour. Lucia is one half of GTA 6’s dual lead, and she’s the first major female protagonist a mainline numbered Grand Theft Auto game has ever had.

Where she comes from

Lucia grew up in Liberty City before her family relocated to Leonida. Life didn’t get easier when they moved, she ended up doing time at Leonida Penitentiary for a crime Rockstar has described as tied to “fighting for her family.” While inside, she worked with a correctional social worker named Stefanie and got out on what Rockstar calls “sheer luck.”

That’s the key to understanding her: Lucia isn’t chasing crime for the thrill of it. She wants the life her mum always dreamed of, going all the way back to their days in Liberty City. Lucia decided the only way to actually get there is to make smart, deliberate moves instead of reckless ones. Officially, she’s committed to “only smart moves from here.” Whether Vice City lets her keep that promise is another story.

What we’ve seen her do

Across the trailers and the Netflix Extended Look, Lucia’s been shown walking out of prison in her jumpsuit, training in a boxing gym, riding motorcycles, working nightclub scenes, and running store robberies alongside Jason. It’s a good spread – she’s not just “the girlfriend character” riding shotgun; she’s fully in the action.

The voice behind her

Actress Manni L. Perez has confirmed she’s the one bringing Lucia to life. Fans had actually clocked her voice earlier through a GTA Online casino NPC – a blackjack dealer in the Diamond Casino – before she came forward herself, which is a fun bit of “the clues were there the whole time” detective work from the community.

The bigger picture

Lucia and Jason’s story is being built as a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style criminal romance – two people whose fates get tangled together through mutual desperation and, eventually, real affection. Rockstar has been clear that whatever choices you make as a player, “you can’t split these two” – their relationship will have ebbs and flows, but they’re in this together.

GTA 6 launches November 19, and Lucia’s shaping up to be the character people will be talking about for years.
