Mark October 23, 2026 in your calendar, because that’s when Modern Warfare 4 lands on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2. Quick note before we get into it, nobody outside Activision has played the full thing yet, so here’s what’s officially confirmed…

The story: War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion threatening to destabilise the world. The campaign follows two threads. First, Private Park, a South Korean soldier caught in the middle of it, and Captain Price on a personal mission to track down a seriously dangerous weapon. Expect the campaign to bounce between locations too, with confirmed set pieces spanning trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, a chase through Paris, and a raid in Mumbai. Big, globe-trotting energy.
Multiplayer’s getting a real shake-up: This isn’t just new maps on the same old system. Activision’s introducing “Ballistic Authority,” which reworks bloom and recoil handling for tighter gunplay, plus 12 core maps at launch and a bonus one called “Kill Block”, which is a dynamic training facility that physically reconfigures between rounds. Movement’s expanding too, with mantling, climbing, and hanging added to the mix, and Create-a-Class is getting a full redesign, complete with a “Gunny” assistant to help you actually build your loadouts instead of guessing.
There’s also a DMZ mode: An extraction-based experience with dynamic weather and military objectives, playable solo or in a squad, for anyone who wants their Call of Duty with a side of tension and looting.
Under the hood: Current-gen native optimisation, upgraded VFX and lighting, and on PC specifically, DLSS 4.5 support plus expanded ray tracing. So performance and visuals are both getting real attention, not just a reskin.
Whether it lives up to the hype is a question for launch day, but on paper, this is one of the more ambitious Modern Warfare entries in a while.
