Playground Games’ reboot of Fable arrives February 23, 2027, on Xbox Series X|S and PC, day one on Xbox Game Pass, with Xbox Play Anywhere support so your save carries across console and PC.
The setup: You’re the first Hero in a generation, dropped into a living, breathing Albion, Fable’s signature fantasy setting, described as filled with “peculiar characters, dark humour, and chickens.” If that sentence alone doesn’t tell you this is still very much Fable at heart, nothing will.
Choice actually matters here, allegedly. The official messaging is blunt about it: “each choice shapes your journey, reputation is everything, and fairytale endings are never guaranteed.” That’s the classic Fable promise: combat, exploration, and relationship-building all feeding into consequences that shape how NPCs treat you and how your story ultimately plays out. You’ll also be able to customise your Hero’s appearance from the jump.

Why the wait matters: This reboot has had a long road to release, with earlier delays pushing it from its original window into 2027. That extra time, for better or worse, means expectations are high… fans of the older Fable games have been waiting a long time for a proper return to Albion done right!
The bigger picture: Playground Games built their name on Forza Horizon’s open-world polish, so seeing them apply that world-building instinct to Fable’s whimsical, consequence-driven RPG format is one of the more interesting studio-genre pairings coming in 2027.
