Let me let you in on a little secret the boys haven’t figured out yet: gaming and getting stuff done are not mutually exclusive. While they’re sat there giving the screen their undivided, slack-jawed attention, we’re out here levelling up our characters AND our skincare routines. Efficiency, darling.
Now, obviously some games need both hands and full focus (I’m not suggesting you paint your nails mid-heist – we’re not animals). But those grindy bits? The AFK moments? The loading screens, the driving-across-the-map stretches, the waiting-for-your-mate-to-join-the-lobby limbo? That’s prime productivity real estate.
Here are 10 things to get done while you game. You’re welcome.
1. A Face Mask
The ultimate gaming-and-glamour multitask. Slap on a sheet mask or a clay mask during a session and by the time you’ve finished your daily grind, you’re glowing. Just maybe avoid the ones that make your face go stiff right before a boss fight …hard to focus when you can’t blink!
2. Paint Your Nails
Best saved for the passive bits – think managing your businesses, waiting in a lobby, or watching a cutscene. Do your non-dominant hand first so your good hand’s still free to grab the controller. Pink, obviously.
3. Deep Condition Your Hair
Pop a hair mask or some deep conditioner in, wrap it up, and let it work its magic while you work yours in-game. An hour of gaming = an hour of treatment. Come out with silky hair AND a fatter in-game bank balance.
4. Reply to Those Messages
You know the ones. The texts you’ve left on read for four days. Knock them out during a loading screen. “Sorry for the late reply!” hits different when you were actually just busy running Cayo Perico.
5. Tidy Your Gaming Space
Controlling this, not literally while holding the controller but in those little breaks. A quick declutter, bin the empty snack wrappers, sort your desk. A tidy setup genuinely makes gaming more enjoyable, and future-you will thank present-you.
6. Hydrate & Snack Prep
Get a big glass of water down you (gamer dehydration is REAL) and have your snacks pre-portioned so you’re not pausing every ten minutes. Bonus points for snacks that don’t get orange dust on your controller. We don’t talk about the Wotsits Incident of 2023.
7. A Little Stretch
Been hunched over for three hours? During a break, roll your shoulders, stretch your neck, do a few wrist circles. Gaming posture is no joke and your future back will send a thank-you card.
8. Learn Something (Podcast Style)
For the grindy, brain-off gaming sessions, stick a podcast or audiobook on in the background. Suddenly your mindless money grind is also self-improvement. Look at you go!
9. Online Life Admin
Renew that subscription, book the appointment you’ve been avoiding, add things to your shopping basket. Loading screens are basically little admin windows the universe gives you for free.
10. Plan Your Next Session (Or Your Content!)
If you’re a creator like me, use the passive moments to jot down ideas, plan your next video, or think up your next post. Some of my best ideas have come mid-grind. This very article? Thought of it while flying to Cayo Perico. True story. 😄
The Verdict
Gaming doesn’t have to be the thing you do instead of everything else… for us girls, it’s the thing we do alongside everything else. Glowing skin, silky hair, painted nails, replied messages, AND a few million in the bank? That’s not a gaming session, that’s a productivity retreat.
The boys could never. 😄
